THE NEXT SLATE WE HAVE IS GCBA, IGBH, KP, AND LB. SBA IS IN THE PRACTICE OF DELETING LANGUAGE NOT REQUIRED BY LAW TO GIVE US AS A SCHOOL DIVISION FLEXIBILITY TO DETERMINE THE PROCESSES THAT WE WILL BE USING TO ADHERE TO THE LAW.

IN THIS CASE, IN GCBA'S CASE, THE WORD ANNUAL WAS DELETED BECAUSE AN ANNUAL REVIEW IS NOT REQUIRED BY LAW.

ALL THE REST ARE MERELY JUST REGULATIONS OR PRACTICE THAT IS NOT REQUIRED BY LAW.

IT'S NOT REALLY AN INDIVIDUAL BY INDIVIDUAL, IT'S LIKE STEP THREE -- >> RIGHT BUT I FEEL THAT WE HAVE LOST CONTACT WITH THE ACTUAL WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE CONTRACTS AFTER WE MAKE THESE SALARY APPROVALS.

THEY CAN BE CHANGED AND THEY CHANGE MONEY AS WELL AND THAT'S WHAT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT.

WE DON'T HAVE TO TAKE ACTION NECESSARILY, BUT I BELIEVE THE BOARD SHOULD BE AWARE OF ANY MONIES BEING SPENT OUTSIDE OF WHAT WE HAVE APPROVED ALREADY.

>> THERE IS A REGULATION THAT WE HAVE GA-R, THAT HAS SALARY STRUCTURE IN THERE AND IT ACTUALLY MENTIONS ANNUAL SALARY SCALES ADOPT BID THE SCHOOL BOARD WILL PROVIDE THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK FOR THE SALARY STRUCTURE AND IT GOES ON AND SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT SALARY INCREASES, ANNUAL SALARY STRUCTURES ARE BASED ON THE RELATIONSHIP OF COMPARABLE SALARY AND CONTINUES ON.

>> RIGHT BUT WHAT CAN HAPPEN IS SOMEONE WITH HAVE A CHANGE IN CONTRACT AND THAT WILL CHANGE THE SALARY IN THAT WITHOUT KNOWING THERE'S A CHANGE.

>> MS. BAREFOOT-REID, THE PRACTICE HAS BEEN THAT'S AN ADMINISTRATIVE DECISION THAT'S BEEN MADE THROUGH HUMAN RESOURCES WITH MY APPROVAL.

WE HAVE AARON CLARK A JUNIOR PARTICIPATIONED IN THE VISUAL ARTS GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL.

AARON WAS SELECTED LAST YEAR AND LOST OUT ON THAT OPPORTUNITY LIKE SO MANY OTHER OPPORTUNITIES DUE TO COVID, BUT BECAUSE SHE WAS ON A SOPHOMORE AT THE TIME OF HER SELECTION, SHE'S ABLE TO PARTICIPATE AGAIN THIS YEAR AND WE'RE THRILLED FOR HER TO HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY.

WE ALSO HAVE SOPHOMORE GEORGIA WENSEL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LYNCHBURG OVER THE FOUR OF JULY SO WE'RE THRILLED FOR HER AS WELL.

>> I HAVE TO COMMEND THEM FOR BEING SMART GETTING TO WEST VIRGINIA.

5 YEARS AGO, I WAS BLESSED TO BE APPOINTED AS THE SUPERINTENDENT AND MOVE MY FAMILY HALFWAY ACROSS THE STATE FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY AND I DO NOT REGRET IT ONE SECOND.

EACH AND EVERY MEMBER OF TEAM GOOCHLAND HAS RIDDEN TO THE CHILD SINCE PRIOR TO MARCH 13TH.

WE STARTED TO PREPARE FOR THE PANDEMIC A FEW WEEKS BEFORE.

WE KNEW SOMETHING WAS COMING.

WE STARTED ON MARCH 13TH WITH MATERIAL THAT IS WERE SENT HOME TO PARENTS IN THIS SCHOOL DIVISION BUT OUR FOLKS LEFT WITH CLOSURE THAT DAY.

THEY ROSE TO THE CHALLENGE THROUGH THE SPRING AND SERVED STUDENTS IN SO MANY WAYS AND WE WENT THROUGH THE MANY ITERATIONS OF OUR OPENING PLAN THIS YEAR ULTIMATELY TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS AND WHETHER YOU MEASURE US WITH SURVEY DATA OR SOL DATA OR WHATEVER YOU DETERMINE THE SUCCESS OF A SCHOOL DIVISION, I WOULD SAY THAT ON EVERY METRIC, OUR SCHOOL DIVISION SHINES.

IN CLOSING, I COMPEL THIS BOARD AND ADMINISTRATION TO REJECT EFFORTS TO REPRESS INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT, ELIMINATE HEALTHY COMPETITION AND REGRESS INTELLECTUAL POTENTIAL.

WHEN IT COMES TO FEDERAL DOLLARS, THERE'S A GREAT AMOUNT OF COMPLIANCE ASSOCIATED WITH HOW WE CAN AND CANNOT SPEND THE FUNDS, ALL THE DOCUMENTATION ASSOCIATED WITH MAKING SURE FUNDS ARE SPENT APPROPRIATELY, ARE MANAGING A SIGNIFICANT POT OF MONEY AND SO WHAT YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU THIS EVENING IS A PROPOSED SPENDING PLAN USING THE FUNDS WE SPENT IDENTIFIED AS ESSER II, THOSE ARE IN BLACK, THE ESSER III FUNDS ARE REFERENCED IN RED.

THE PUBLIC MAY NOT KNOW THAT GOOCHLAND HIGH SCHOOL DOES NOT HAVE A DISHWASHER, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, SO THIS IS GOING TO ALLOW US TO BE GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS WITHOUT PUTTING STYROFOAM IN THE LAND FIELDS.

ONE OF THOSE QUESTIONS COVIDS THE SCHOOL DIVISION IN A $60 MILLION BUILDING PROJECT AND THE SECOND QUESTION INVOLVES THE BUILDING OF A FIRE STATION.

FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

THE SUPERVISORS WILL FINALIZE THOSE QUESTIONS AT THEIR JUNE BOARD MEETING AND FROM THERE, THE CITIZEN WILLS DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO GIVE AUTHORITY TO INCUR THE DEBT.

JUST IN REVIEW, THE SCHOOL DIVISION'S PROJECTS INCLUDE SEVERAL THINGS.

NUMBER ONE IS A NEW GOOCHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, A 650 SEAT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO BE BUILT ON OUR CAM BUS HERE AT THE CORNER OF BULLDOG WAY AND STAGECOACH ROAD.

ALSO INCLUDES ROAD IMPROVEMENTS TO BULLDOG WAY, IMPROVEMENTS TO THE SECONDARY COMPLEX FRONT PARKING LOT AS WELL AS INTERIOR RENOVATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL FINE ART SPACES, AN AUXILIARY GYMNASIUM ALLOWING US TO HAVE OUR STEM PROGRAMS ALL UNDER ONE ROOF.

THIS SETS THE STAGE FOR THE MODERNIZATION FOR OUR COMMUNITY FOR MANY, MANY YEARS.

AS I SAID LAST MONTH, THE BENEFIT OF THIS IS THAT IT WOULD NOT INVOLVE A TAX INCREASE TO OUR LOCAL RESIDENTS.

THE COUNTY WOULD BE ABLE TO FUND THE COUNTY'S PROJECTS WITHOUT AN INCREASE IN TAXES.

MORE TO COME I'M GOING TO KEEP THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY BUT WANTED TO SHARE THAT PUBLICLY.

THIS IS A DISTRIBUTION OF WHO RESPONDED, SPLIT PRETTY EVENLY BETWEEN STUDENTS AND OUR FAMILIES THERE.

YOU CAN SEE ANOTHER DISTRIBUTION OF WHO RESPONDED BASED ON THE TIMING OF THE SURVEY AND SO WE HAD PRETTY GOOD RESPONSE RATE.

1028 IS NOT TOO BAD WITH EVERYBODY DOING THINGS IN THEIR PERSONAL LIVES RIGHT NOW.

SPLIT 57-43 IN THOSE INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING DISTANCE LEARNING OPPOSED TO THOSE IN PERSON.

I STOOD HERE IN PRIDE IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY WHEN I SAID TRY LEAVING DISNEY WORLD WITH A 92% APPROVAL RATING AND WE WERE ABLE TO BEAT THAT, SO 93% OF INDIVIDUALS WHO SPANNEDED SAID THEY'RE HAVING A BETTER THAN EXPECTED EXPERIENCE OR AN EXPERIENCE AS GOOD AS THEY THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE.

IT'S BAN TRUE HARDSHIP BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME AND IT'S REFLECTED IN THESE RESULTS SO IT'S TRULY OUR TEAM AS A WHOLE THAT'S MADE THIS HAPPEN.

THIS IS CALLED A WORDLE AND WHAT STICKS OUT IS ALL THE RESPONSES FOCUS ON STUDENTS.

BUT NOTHING COULD STOP US FROM BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AND MAKING CONNECTIONS WITH OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THOSE ARE THE BUILDING BLOCKS TO MAKE OUR STUDENTS SUCCESSFUL, AND THAT'S WHAT I SAW IN THAT VIDEO, AND THAT'S WHAT I SEE EVERY DAY AS PRINCIPAL OF BYRD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

WHILE NONE OF US LEAD UNILATERALLY, WE ALL WORK COLLABORATIVELY, THE KINDS OF THINGS I BELIEVE ARE IMPORTANT ABOUT TEACHING AND LEARNING AND MEETING THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS, MY FINGERPRINTS ARE ON SOME O THESE ITEMS TONIGHT AND LOTS OF WHAT WE'VE DONE INSTRUCTIONALLY FOR THE LAST 9 YEARS AND I SAY THAT TOO SAY REGARDLESS OF DECISIONS THAT HAPPEN BEYOND THE BOARDERS OF GOOCHLAND, WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND MAKE DECISIONS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR STUDENTS.

ALL THESE OF THESE ITEMS ARE LOCAL DECISIONS WHEN WE SET PROGRAMS IN OUR SCHOOL DIVISION AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO DO THE GREAT PERK THAT'S GONE ON FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS BEFORE I ARRIVED IN GOOCHLAND, CERTAINLY.

BUT PLEASE KNOW THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO WHAT WE HAVE DONE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF ALL OUR STUDENTS.

SO A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT FOR THE NEXT THREE ITEMS AND I WILL START WITH, AS DR. RALEY SAID, AN UPDATE ON THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON HOMEWORK.

THIS HAS BEEN REALLY ENGAGING, ENERGIZING WORK BECAUSE IT'S BEEN AWESOME TO CONNECT WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT STAKE HOLDERS AND IT STARTED BACK IN JANUARY, AND I WILL JUST WALK THROUGH.

EACH ONE OF THESE ITEMS REALLY IS AN UPDATE SO THEY WILL BE RELATIVELY BRIEF, BUT FOR THE FIRST PRESENTATION, WE'RE JUST GOING TO GO THROUGH WHY ARE WE EVEN TALKING ABOUT HOMEWORK IN OUR HOMEWORK POLICY.

WHAT ARE THE COMMITTEE OBJECTIVES THAT WE SET AT THE BEGINNING OF OUR WORK IN GENERAL? WHAT WAS THE ESTIMATED TIME LINE AND THANKFULLY WE INTEND TO DELIVER ON THE TIME LINE THAT WE SET, WHICH IS GREAT NEWS.

SO OBJECTIVES AND TIME LINE, THIS WAS THE ONE PAGER THAT I CIRCULATED BACK IN THE FALL SEMESTER TO SOLICIT FOLKS THAT WERE INTERESTED IN BEING PART OF THE

WE IDENTIFIED TWO OBJECTIVES TO BUILD CONSENSUS AROUND BROAD RELATED GUIDELINES AROUND HOMEWORK AND AS IT RELATES TO THE SCHOOL BOARD TO DEVELOP RECOMMENDATIONS FOR OUR HOMEWORK POLICY SO WE KEPT OUR FOCUS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS.

SET THAT TIME LINE THAT YOU SEE AT THE BOTTOM.

OUR FIRST MEETING WAS IN JANUARY, OUR FINAL MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY EVENING OF THIS WEEK AND WE HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK TO MODERNIZE OUR HOMEWORK POLICY ALONG THE WAY AND YOU WILL SEE THAT FULL DRAF POLICY NEXT MONTH, AT NEXT MONTH'S BOARD MEETING.

IN TERMS OF MEMBERSHIP, I WON'T READ THE NAMES TO YOU BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HAVE AN AMAZING GROUP OF STAKEHOLDERS WHO HAVE DEDICATED TIME NOT ONLY DURING THE MEETINGS IN THE EVENING THAT I MENTIONED BEFORE BUT FOLKS HAD HOMEWORK ALONG THE WAY, IRONICALLY.

WE ALSO PROVIDE SUBSTANTIAL CONTEXT FOR THE CHARACTERISTICS OF EFFECTIVE HOMEWORK DESIGN AND PRACTICES, WHICH IS A REALLY CRITICAL PIECE TO PROVIDING DIRECTION FOR OUR TEAM AS WELL AS PROVIDING GUIDANCE AS IT RELATES TO FREQUENCY AND DURATION OF HOMEWORK.

AGAIN, I WON'T READ THIS TO YOU BUT CERTAINLY TAKE THE TIME IF YOU'RE INTERESTED READING THAT AND THE CLIFF'S NOTES VERSION OF THAT, NEXT SCHOOL YEAR WILL INCLUDE A FALL AND SPRING STATE TEST ADMINISTRATION IN READING AND MATH IN GRADES THREE THROUGH EIGHT AND THEN IT APPEARS THAT THE FOLLOWING YEAR IN 22, 23 WILL LIKELY INCLUDE A FALL, WINTER, AND SPRING STATE TEST ADMINISTRATION IN READING AND MATH IN GRADES THREE THROUGH EIGHT AND THAT STARTS TO GET AT, AS THIS BOARD AND OUR PUBLIC IS WELL AWARE TO KNOW OUR SYSTEM AND OUR SCHOOL DIVISION IS SET UP IN A VERY SIMILAR WAY IN TERMS OF MEASURING GROWTH.

SO THE STATE APPEARS TO BE GOING IN THAT DIRECTION WHICH, AGAIN, HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE VERY POSITIVE.

BUT IT BRINGS UP THE QUESTION HOW DOES THAT FIT OR NOT FIT WITH WHAT WE'RE CURRENTLY DOING IN OUR SCHOOL DIVISION THAT WE DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT WE CHOOSE TO DO.

SCHOOL DIVISIONS WILL BE COMPELLED TO COMPLY WITH THAT AND THE FINAL PIECE, I CHOSE THE HIGHLIGHTS IN MY MIND AS I READ THE TEXT OF THE BILL IS THIS NOTION OF TIME IN TERMS OF STUDENT ASSESSMENT AND THE SUMMARY HERE, STUDENTS WILL BE ENGAGED IN STATE TESTING FOR MORE TIME THAN THEY'RE CURRENTLY ENGAGED IN.

I WOULD ARGUE THAT'S NOT NECESSARILY A GOOD THING AND SO WHILE I THINK THE SPIRIT OF IT IS POSITIVE.

THE NOTION OF MORE TESTING IN THE CONTEXT OF BALANCED ASSESSMENT MIGHT GET US A LITTLE UNBALANCED SO I DO HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT ADDITIONAL TESTING IN TERMS OF IMPACTING OR STUDENTS.

SO THIS IS THAT TRANSITION FROM THERE ARE THINGS THAT HAPPEN AT THE STATE LEVEL BUT I WANT TO BE CLEAR WITH OUR BOARD AND WITH OUR COMMUNITY THAT WE REEVALUATE OUR DIVISION EVERY YEAR ANYWAY.

LEGISLATION IS PROMPTING US TO TAKE AN EVEN CLOSER LOOK AT IT BUT WE'LL CONTINUE TO REEVALUATE OUR APPROACH TO ASSESSMENT.

WE HAVE MADE THE DECISION THAT NEXT YEAR WE'LL CONTINUE TO USE THE MATH ASSESSMENT.

WE DISCUSSED THAT WITH OUR INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF, OUR ADMINISTRATORS AND THAT'S A GOOD DECISION N MY OPINION, TO CONTINUE TO MATH NEXT YEAR.

IF YOU THINK BACK TO WHAT I MENTIONED BEFORE IN TERMS OF CONTINUED USE OF MATH, I THINK WE'LL HAVE DECISIONS TO MAP IN THE FALL AND WINTER OF NEXT YEAR IN TERMS OF MAP'S DIVISION AND WEAL ASSESS THE GRADES IN FALL, WINTER AND SPRING, TESTING KIDS TWICE IN THE SAME ACADEMIC AREAS DURING THE SAME WINDOWS OF TIME.

THAT DOESN'T SOUND BALANCED TO ME.

I STRUGGLE WITH THAT, YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I BELIEVE IN THE MAP ASSESSMENT AND HOW MUCH I BELIEVE IT'S BEEN AN INGREDIENT TO OUR SUCCESS OVER THE YEARS.

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE STATE WILL CHOOSE MAP?

>> MY ASSUMPTION IS THEY WILL PUT OUT AN RFP AND THERE WILL BE COMPETITION FOR THE STATE CONTRACT RELATED TO ASSESSMENT AND IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THAT COMPANY, NWBA PUTS AN EFFORT INTO TRYING TO BECOME VIRGINIA'S TESTING PLATFORM, BUT I CERTAINLY DON'T HAVE ANY INSIGHT INTO THAT.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE SENTIMENT AMONG OUR TEAM IS WE GOT THIS, WE'RE DEMONSTRATING THAT WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE DOING AND OUR STUDENTS ARE THRIVING AND OUR TEACHERS ARE AMAZING, JUST LET US KEEP DOING THAT.

LARGE EQUIPMENT THAT PREVIOUSLY TOOK 8 WEEKS, WE'RE NOW LOOKING AT 26 WEEKS OUT TO GET THIS EQUIPMENT.

REPAIR ASSEMBLIES, A LOT OF TIMES REPAIR PARTS COME IN ENTIRE ASSEMBLY, IT'S JUST ONE LITTLE PART THAT IS KEEPING US FROM GETTING BACK ONLINE.

ONE OF THE ITEMS THAT'S ABOUT 6 MONTHS OUT, WE'RE PUSHING THAT OUT TO NEXT SUMMER.

WE HAVE A FEW MORE TIME, A FEW MORE RESOURCES SO WE'RE GOING TO BRING THE WELLS OVER.

WE'RE DONE WITH THE WELLS AT BYRD AND RANDOLPH ELEMENTARY AND TRY TO DO THAT THIS SUMMER KNOWING WE'RE STARTING A LITTLE LATER THAN WE NORMALLY WOULD.

RANDOLPH AND BYRD, WE'RE GOING INTO PHASE TWO OF THE HVAC IMPROVEMENTS.

THAT'S GOING TO BE GREAT BECAUSE THAT WILL GET THOSE TWO FACILITIES COMPLETELY UP TO DATE AS FAR AS AUTOMATION GOES AND GET US VERY WELL POSITIONED AND LIKEWISE, THE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING AUTOMATION IMPORTANT, THAT'S NEARLY COMPLETE.

WHEN WE GOTTA CARES ACT FUNDING WE HAD THE INITIAL DEADLINE OF FINISHING BEFORE THE NEW YEAR AND WE REALLY, REALLY RUSHED THAT ONE, GOT SOME FOLKS IN THERE LOOKING BACK, I WOULD HAVE SPENT MORE TYPE ON THE FRONT END BUT WE WERE REALLY TRYING TO COMPRESS THAT AND GET THAT DONE BEFORE THE NEW YEAR SO AS A RESULT, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTIES BUT WE'RE AT THE TAIL END OF THAT.

WE ALMOST GOT ALL THOSE BUGS COMPLETED AND WE'RE LOOKING TO HAVE THOSE COMPLETED IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS.

A SUMMARY OF THE WORK ORDERS, GAVE YOU THE PIE CHARTS AND EVERYTHING, SIMILAR TO WHAT WE DID A YEAR AGO.

IT REALLY HASN'T CHANGED TOO MUCH FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR, THE TYPES OF WORK ORDERS ARE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AND THE PERCENTAGES MATCHING THE SCHOOL POPULATIONS.

ONE OF THE NOTES IS THAT THE HVAC TICKETS ARE UNDERREPRESENTED.

LET ME START WITH ONE OF GOOCHLAND'S OWN, DEVIN POWERS, A JUNIOR FROM GOOCHLAND AT MAGGIE WALKER WON A GOLD MEDAL AT THE NATIONAL SCHOLASTIC ARTS AWARDS.

THIS IS NO SMALL FEAT.

IT CAME WITH A SCHOLARSHIP, I BELIEVE, FOR HER AND SOME REALLY COOL RECOGNITION,

OBVIOUSLY, FOR MAGGIE WALKER BUT ALSO GOOCHLAND, SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS GOOD TO SHARE.

SOME THINGS THAT CAME OUT THERE AS OF THEIR LAST MEETING THEY HAD 42% OF THAT YOU ARE STUDENTS RETURN TO IN-PERSON WHICH WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT A GIVEN.

JUST LIKE HERE, WITH THE ABILITY TO DRIVE AND HAVE TECHNOLOGY AND THAT SORT OF STUFF AND MANY TIMES OPTING OUT FOR THEIR OWN CONVENIENCE, I'M GUESSING PAJAMAS ARE MORE COMFORTABLE THAN JEANS, BUT STILL I THOUGHT 42% WAS A PRETTY GOOD NUMBER TO HAVE THERE.

THEY HAVE THEIR GRADUATION THAT'S COMING UP, THE 17TH NOW INSTEAD OF THE 18TH.

THEY JUST MOVED IT BY 1 DAY; I JUST HOPE IT WON'T POUR DOWN RAIN THERE FOR THEM BUT I THINK THE MOST EXCITING NEWS FOR MAGGIE WALKER, THEY DECIDED TO KNOCK DOWN THE HIGH STAKES TEST FOR THE CLASS OF 2025 THAT'S GOING IN SO THEY HAVE SEEN SOME REALLY GOOD RESULTS AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THAT AND ESSENTIALLY WHAT'S HAPPENED IS THAT THERE'S INCREASED DIVERSITY, ALMOST DOUBLE THE DIVERSITY OF THEIR INCOMING CLASS AND THAT'S BEEN REFLECTED IN GOOCHLAND'S CLASS AS WELL.

WE'RE NOW WELL WITHIN WHAT WOULD BE THE EXPECTED NORMS FOR US AND WE'VE HAD A GOOD AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS IN THE PROCESS, ALTHOUGH I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS QUITE AS HIGH AS SOME OF THE YEARS PAST.

IT REALLY SPEAKS TO SOME OF THE WORK THE MAGGIE WALKER BOARD IS CONSIDERING ABOUT WHAT THIS ADMISSIONS PROCESS IS GOING TO BE LIKE AND WHAT'S TRULY IMPORTANT.

IT WAS WELL ATTENDED WITH OVER 25 PEOPLE INCLUDING TEACHERS, BUSINESS SUPPORTERS, ADMINISTRATORS AND PARENTS AND WAS MODERATED BY BRUCE WATSON, THE DIRECTOR OF GOOCHLAND'S CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATIO PROGRAM.

DR. RALEY PRESENTED INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL INCLUDING A CTE ADDITION AND A $40 MILLION PROJECT THAT WILL BE ON THE BALLOT AS A REFERENDUM ON NOVEMBER 2ND, 2021.

THE PROJECT WILL BE FUNDED WITH CURRENT REVENUE AND WILL NOT REQUIRE A TAX INCREASE FROM THE CITIZENS OF GOOCHLAND.

IT'S A GREAT REPRESENTATION OF OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS AND WILL BE A FACILITY THAT WE'LL BE VERY PROUD OF FOR MANY, MANY YEARS SO THAT'S A SIGNIFICANT CONTRACT FOR US TO CONSIDER IN THE COMING WEEKS.

WE'LL HAVE SCHOOL BOARD REPRESENTATION ON THAT AS WE BRING THE FINAL RECOMMENDATION TO YOU.

BLUE RIDGE VIRTUAL GOVERNOR SCHOOL MET RECENTLY AND THE FIRST THING I WANT TO SAY ABOUT BLUE RIDGE VIRTUAL SCHOOL IS THIS TIME OF YEAR T SENIOR PRESENTATIONS ARE DUE AND I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO VIEW, I THINK I VIEWED 15 OF THEM NOW.

THEY HAD TO DO THEM VIRTUALLY IN THE PAST.

WE HAVE DONE THEM AT A BEST WESTERN AND THEY WERE ABLE TO BE INTERVIEWED AND THEY HAD BOARDS AND SO THIS WAS VIRTUAL, BUT THE STUDENTS DID A GREAT JOB.

MAN, THESE KIDS, SOMEHOW THEY KEPT AT IT AND THEY FOUND WAYS TO DO THAT MID COVID SO THAT'S A KUDOS FOR ALIGNING THAT WITH THEIR RESEARCH AND SHOWING THE

I MENTION THOSE SENIOR PROJECTS BECAUSE IN OUR MEETING, ONE OF THE VERY IMPORTANT ITEMS THAT WE APPROVED AS A BOARD WAS A CHANGE IN MATH CREDIT NECESSARY FOR GRADUATION.

TYPICALLY IT WAS JUST THE CALCULUS.

BLUE RIDGE WAS MOSTLY, I GUESS, ORIGINALLY MAYBE MORE ENGINEERS, BUT WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT HIGHER LEVEL THINKING IS REQUIRED IN ALL CAREERS.

LOOKING AT THE TOPICS IN THESE SENIOR PROJECTS JUST TELLS ME THE BROAD SPECK CRUMB OF TALENTED AND GIFTED STUDENTS IN BLUE RIDGE.

THE TOPICS WERE IMPACT ON BUSINESS, DESIGN ENGINEERING, THE IMPACT OF POOR EYESIGHT ON MENTAL HEALTH.

FINANCE, THAT STUDENT COULD PROBABLY FIGURE OUT ALL THE STOCKS WE WOULD NEED AND BE ABLE TO FOLLOW THEM.

THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR BUSINESS.

WE KNOW THERE ARE STUDENTS ALREADY READY FOR BUSINESS WORLD.

A DUAL ENROLLMENT STATISTICS OR PRE-CALC WITH TRIG.

THOSE ARE COLLEGE CREDIT AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT WE APPROVED IT TO BE A MATH CREDIT FOR GRADUATION IN THE BLUE RIDGE PROGRAM.

SO THAT WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THE WORK THAT IS GOING ON AT BLUE RIDGE VIRTUAL GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL AND ONE OF THE VERY IMPORTANT DECISIONS THAT WE MADE AS A BOARD.

SO IT'S A QUARTERLY MEETING.

IN ADDITION TO WHAT'S BEEN SHARED TONIGHT, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STICK OUT WITH ME WAS DR. ARMSTRONG'S COMMENT THAT FACILITIES AND SAFETY TEAM IN GOOCHLAND, SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE THOUGHTFUL AND NIMBLE IN EVERYTHING WE DO SO THANK YOU FOR THAT AND WE DO SEE THAT AS MR. NEWMAN WAS MENTIONING ABOUT THE START OF SCHOOL, THAT THOUGHTFUL AND NIMBLE IS DEFINITELY ACROSS THE DIVISION AND ALL THE PLANNING THAT'S TAKING PLACE.
