BECAUSE OF THE VIDEOS, THE BULLYING BY RANDOM STUDENTS HAS INTENSIFIED TO PUNCHING MY SON FOR NO REASON. THIS IS AFTER THE INCIDENT. DR. COLLIER AND MR. HAHN ARE LEGALLY LIABLE FOR NOT SEIZING THEIR PHONES. THE RULE STATES THAT STUDENTS SHALL NOT HAVE THEIR PHONES OUT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. NOW OUR ADMINISTRATORS ARE GOING TO FOLLOW THE RULES OR NOT. AND THE FAMILY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO COME HERE AND GET JUSTICE WHEN ANY LOGICAL PERSON COULD SEE THAT THIS YOUNG MAN DOES NOT SNIFF COCAINE AND THE BULLY WOULD NOT GO TO THE THE START AND CENTER OF THE VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM AND SLAP THAT PERSON. THIS BULLY SLAPPED ONE OF MY MENTEES, 15 YEARS OLD, A TOUGH GUY, BUT HE WAS HE WAS NO MATCH. THIS BULLY WOULD NOT SLAP GOING TO THE GIRL'S BASKETBALL TEAM AND SLAP ONE OF THEM. AND WHY ARE SO MANY BOOKS FOR SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN WRITTEN WITH SUCH GRAPHIC SEXUAL LANGUAGE? IT LEAVES LITTLE TO INFER OR TO THE IMAGINATION. IT'S AS IF THE AUTHOR WANTS TO CONTROL THE IMAGERY PRESENTED TO YOUNG PEOPLE WHO MAY NOT ALREADY HAVE EXPERIENCES TO DRAW THE SAME CONCLUSIONS. I HAVE TO WONDER ABOUT AUTHORS WHO WRITE ABOUT MINORS ENGAGING IN EXPLICIT SEXUAL SCENES. IF AN ADULT WAS READING ALOUD SOME OF THESE BOOKS TO CHILDREN, I WOULD CONSIDER THEM JUST A PEDOPHILE OR GROOMER. THERE'S NO REASON FOR IT. I WILL TELL YOU, IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE OUR STUDENTS GET EXCITED ABOUT READING. THOSE STUDENTS HAVE READ MANY, MANY BOOKS THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE FALL. THEY HAD COACHES WHO VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME, OUR STAFF WHO SUPPORTED THEM IN THAT ENDEAVOR. WE HAD MANY, MANY TEAMS FROM EACH SCHOOL THAT READ BOOKS, ANSWERED QUESTIONS, AND COMPETED IN A VERY WARM AND FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT. IT WAS ANOTHER GREAT MOMENT FOR OUR SCHOOL DIVISION, QUITE HONESTLY. IT WAS BEEN THREE YEARS, THREE YEARS SINCE WE HAD READING OLYMPICS. AND SO SOME OF THOSE STUDENTS I RECOGNIZED WHO ARE PERFORMING HERE TONIGHT WERE ON THE READING OLYMPICS TEAMS. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THEM IN A DIFFERENT SETTING. WE HAD THREE TOWN HALLS, ACTUALLY, AND SO I WAS ABLE TO INTERACT WITH OUR COMMUNITY AND HAVE GREAT CONVERSATION ABOUT THE WORK OF OUR SCHOOL DIVISION. THE PRESENTATION THAT I PROVIDED IN THOSE SETTINGS IS LINKED TO THE AGENDA FOR ANYONE WHO MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND THAT AS THAT PUBLIC DOCUMENT. AND YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE WHAT WAS SHARED WITH OUR PUBLIC THERE. NEXT, I WANTED TO PROVIDE OUR COMMUNITY WITH AN UPDATE ON THE WORK THAT OUR SCHOOL DIVISION HAS BEEN DOING REGARDING OUR INSTRUCTIONAL CALENDAR. AS THIS BOARD KNOWS, THIS HAS BEEN A TOPIC OF CONVERSATION FOR PROBABLY A YEAR NOW. I THINK IT WAS PROBABLY MARCH OF LAST YEAR THAT WE ENGAGED IN THIS CONVERSATION. WE'VE DONE A LOT OF WORK REGARDING STAKEHOLDER INVOLVEMENT, GAINING FEEDBACK, ASKING QUESTIONS, PROVIDING CLARITY, MAKING ADJUSTMENTS ALONG THE WAY. AND AT THIS POINT IN TIME, BOARD MEMBERS. I JUST WANTED TO LET OUR PUBLIC KNOW THAT WE WILL NOT BE MOVING FORWARD FOR THE 2023, 20, 24 SCHOOL YEAR WITH A BALANCED CALENDAR APPROACH. THERE ARE CERTAINLY MANY POSITIVE ASPECTS OF THAT THAT WILL BENEFIT STUDENTS AND STAFF AND OUR FAMILIES. AND SO WE WILL CERTAINLY DELIBERATE AND REFLECT ON THE POSITIVES ASSOCIATED WITH THAT WORK. AND ULTIMATELY BOARD MEMBERS, I NEED TO PRESENT YOU WITH A CALENDAR FOR 2023, 2024, NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER OF NEXT YEAR. SO WE WILL REINVIGORATE THIS WORK IN THE COMING MONTHS. THEY WERE CUTTING BUSHES. THEY WERE PICKING UP TRASH. WE HAD, I BELIEVE, NEARLY 100 STUDENTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE HELPING PAUL'S COMMUNITY DAY. SO I DO WANT TO THANK DR. COLLIER AND HIS TEAM FOR MAKING THAT OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS. SO IT TOOK US A FEW MONTHS. THEY DIDN'T ACTUALLY HAVE ENOUGH AT FIRST. AND SO WE WORK THROUGH THIS WITH PRICING, AND THEY WERE VERY GENEROUS WITH US AS WELL. BUT NOW WE HAVE THEIR ESSENTIAL GREEN LEAF AND ALL OF OUR CHEF SALADS, OUR CAESAR SALADS AND OUR SIDE SALADS AND OUR CAFETERIAS EVERY DAY. SO IT IS. WE HAVE NO FINDINGS THAT SAID, IN FACT, THAT THEY EXCEEDED THE EXPECTATIONS. SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY NICE. EVERY FEBRUARY, I HAVE TO ORDER THE USDA COMMODITY FOODS FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. I KNOW THEY GIVE US LIKE THREE WEEKS TO DO THAT. SO ON FEBRUARY 10TH, THEY OPENED UP THE CATALOG AND I HAD UNTIL MARCH THE THIRD TO GET THE FOODS ORDERED FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. AND THEN A GROUP CALLED KCC, WHICH IS ACTUALLY PART OF USDA, GAVE US SOME ADDITIONAL MONEY TO ORDER SOME EXTRA FOODS. AND WE HAVE TO USE ALL THESE FOODS BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER. SO I DID LIKE A LOT OF CANNED GOODS AND AND THAT SORT OF THING. SO EXCUSE ME, I WAS VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT. JUST LIKE EVERYBODY. THEY GET PENCILS AND BOOKMARKS AND RULERS. AND, YOU KNOW, IT'S JUST IT'S A VERY FUN WEEK. AND WE CELEBRATED BY HANGING THE ARTWORK THAT THE LITTLE KIDS COLORED AND OUR SCHOOL CAFETERIAS. ACTUALLY, THERE WAS ANOTHER PICTURE I'LL PUT UP THERE. THERE WAS A FLIER THAT THE DAIRY ALLIANCE DID TO ADVERTISE THEIR SMOOTHIES AND THE SMOOTHIES POWER IT UP. THAT'S OUR HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA STAFF. WE ENDED UP AFTER OUR TRAINING. WE ACTUALLY GOT A SMOOTHIE STATION THROUGH A GRANT, AND THIS WAS LAST SCHOOL YEAR. HOWEVER, WITH SUPPLY DISRUPTIONS, WE DIDN'T GET IT TILL THIS SCHOOL YEAR. SO WE FAIRLY RECENTLY HAD THE TRAINING AND I THINK WE'RE GOING TO WAIT UNTIL THE FALL TO START IT. BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS EXCITING. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THEY WERE GOING TO BE IN IT AND YOU KNOW, THEY GOT PERMISSION TO USE THEIR PHOTO. BUT I GOT THIS FLIER THAT WENT OUT TO EVERYBODY IN THE STATE, SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS COOL. I WAS LIKE, WOW, LOOK AT THOSE PEOPLE. IT'S LIKE, WOW, I RECOGNIZE THOSE PEOPLE. SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS COOL FOR THEM. SO THAT'S ALWAYS A WORRY AS FAR AS OUR BUDGET AND FINANCES GO. I HAVE A FEW STATISTICS. BREAKFAST MEALS. WE'VE SERVED 71,911 TILL THE END OF MARCH. LUNCHES. 199,391. AND CURBSIDE MEALS HAVE KIND OF GONE DOWN BECAUSE EVERYBODY'S BACK IN SCHOOL. BUT WE'VE SERVED 821 CURBSIDE MEALS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. THE UNIVERSAL FREE MEALS WHERE WE CAN SERVE ALL CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 FOR FREE HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. SO THIS MEANS WE HAVE TO RETURN TO THE PAID REDUCED AND FREE MEAL CATEGORIES. IN ADDITION, THE REIMBURSEMENT AMOUNTS ARE GOING TO BE MUCH LESS, WHICH THAT, COUPLED WITH THE PRICE INCREASES, IS VERY SCARY. I LISTED. WHAT ARE REIMBURSEMENTS ARE GOING TO BE? FOR THIS, WE SERVICE 250 ATHLETIC FIELD TRIPS AND 148 FIELD TRIPS. SO THAT'S AFFECT THE METAL PRICES. THIS IS A WAY WE HAVEN'T EVEN FELT YET, AND WE'RE ALREADY STRUGGLING RIGHT NOW. THE SUPPLY CHAIN DISRUPTIONS, THEY'VE DIVERTED ALL THE REPAIR PARTS INTO NEW PRODUCTION, INTO NEW MANUFACTURING. SO IT'S GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO GET REPAIR PARTS. THE INVENTORY THAT WAS ON PEOPLE'S SHELVES HAS JUST EVAPORATED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND IT'S JUST NOT BEING REPLENISHED. IT'S STARTING TO CAUSE SOME EXTREME DELAYS IN COMMON PARTS AND THEN STARTING TO MAKE SOME LESS COMMON PARTS JUST OUTRIGHT UNAVAILABLE. I'M BEGINNING TO HEAR FROM SOME OF MY CONTRACTORS THAT THEY HAVE PROJECTS JUST ON HOLD RIGHT NOW WITH NO DATE WHEN THEY'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO FINISH THAT. WE'VE COMPLETED OVER 2500 WORK ORDERS, AND THAT DOESN'T REFLECT ALL OF THE WORK BECAUSE THE SYSTEM DOES GREAT AT CREATING ACCOUNTABILITY AND MAKING SURE IT STUFF DOESN'T FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS, BUT IT DOESN'T ACCOUNT FOR ALL THE EMERGENCY WORK THAT GETS CALLED IN. SOME OF THE WINTER WORK INCLUDES THE SNOW REMOVAL DIVISION ONE, THE BOILERS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND THE PRESCHOOL. THEN WE HAD TO MOVE THE PRESCHOOL OVER TO THE OLD MIDDLE SCHOOL. THAT CONCRETE PATIO AT GOOCHLAND HIGH SCHOOL JUST KEEPS GOING ON. I MEAN, WELL, THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FINISH LABOR DAY. THAT WAS THE THING. WE'RE GOING TO BE DONE ON LABOR DAY. JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE DEALING WITH. RANDOLPH ELEMENTARY. WE REDID THE HVAC AND THE FRONT OFFICE THERE, AND THE TRANSPORTATION SHOP HAS GIVEN SOME NEW LIFTS.
