WE'LL MEET NEXT WEEK ON THE 21ST, AND SUBSEQUENTLY ON THE 28TH. THAT WILL TURN INTO A SUPERINTENDENT'S PROPOSED BUDGET PRESENTATION ON FEBRUARY THE 4TH.

THE BOARD APPROVAL OF THE REQUEST OF SUPERVISORS ON FEBRUARY 25TH AND A PRESENTATION TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ON THE 4TH OF MARCH. JUST TO REMIND EVERYONE, WE'RE GUIDED IN OUR POLICY MAKING BY SCHOOL BOARD POLICY DBR.

THROUGH ITS SPENDING THE DIVISION SEEKS TO CONTINUE TO MAXIMIZE THE VALUE OF PUBLIC FUNDING RECEIVED FT THE OPERATING BUDGET WILL BE STRUCTURALLY BALANCED. IN OTHER WORDS, WE WON'T USE A NONRECURRING REVENUES FOR THINGS THAT REOCCUR. THE DIVISION WILL TAKE A LONG-TERM PERSPECTIVE AS ALLOWED UNDER THE VIRGINIA CODE. AND WE ALL UNDERSTAND THAT DECISIONS CARRY FUTURE IMPLICATIONS.

BASED ON THE GOVERNOR'S PROPOSED BUDGET, THIS IS HOW IT SHAKES OUT FOR GOOCHLAND COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THERE SHOULD BE AN INCREASE IN SALES TAX. WHICH WILL BE OFFSET BY A DECREASE IN BASIC AID.
THERE SHOULD BE INCREASES IN FUNDING FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER TEACHERS, A COMPENSATION SUPPLEMENT FOR 3% INCREASES FOR SOQ-FUNDED SOQ-FUNDED POSITIONS ONLY, AND IF IT HOLDINGS A PRESCHOOL INITIATIVE THAT WILL AGAIN BE REMOVED. YOU MAY RECALL A YEAR AGO THIS PROPOSAL WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN THE BUDGET THE LCI CAP OF .5 WAS GOING TO BE RAISED TO OUR LOCAL INDEX OF .8. AS A .5, THE STATE IS OUR PARTNER 50/50 FOR PRESCHOOL SERVICES.

GOOCHLAND SCHOOL BOARD ADOPTED A VIRGINIA D.O.E. POLICY THAT TELLS TRANSGENDER STUDENTS THAT THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE WHO THEY ARE UNTIL AND UNLESS THEY JUMP THROUGH MULTIPLE HOOPS. IT GIVES TEACHERS AND OTHERS PERMISSION TO DISRESPECT THE STUDENTS. IS DIVISIVE AND UNNECESSARY . IN DECEMBER, THE CHAIR PRESENTED UNFOUNDED RUMORS AS THOUGH THEY WERE TRUE . REQUESTS HAVE DOCUMENTED NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THE ALLEGATIONS , AND THE SCHOOL BOARD IS POISED TO VOTE ON CHANGES TO THE ALREADY DISCRIMINATORY POLICY BASED ON UNFOUNDED ALLEGATIONS. IT'S NOT OKAY! IN CONTRAST TO THE CHAIR STATEMENT THAT SHE IS LOOKING OUT FOR ALL STUDENTS , TARGETING VULNERABLE STUDENTS HURTS ALL STUDENTS. ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF CAN FEEL THE DISTRESS , THE DISTRUST, AND LACK OF RESPECT IN THE TONE OF THE COMMENTS, AND IN THE PROPOSED ACTIONS. SCHOOLS SHOULD BE A SAFE HAVEN FOR STUDENTS.
